Course Description:

This aims to provide an introduction to the fundamentals of crane operations and safety. Participants will learn about the various types of cranes and their applications, identify the highest risk phases of crane operations, and gain an understanding of common hazards associated with lifting activities. The course also covers critical crane safety systems, wire rope construction and selection, inspection basics, and applicable OSHA/MIOSHA regulations and industry standards. Upon completion, participants will have a foundational understanding of safe crane operations and the essential principles needed to recognize and mitigate crane-related hazards.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define the hazard associated with cranes and associated operations and/or how they are managed and explain the purpose in determining controls to ensure safe practices and compliance.
  • Identify and describe the hazards associated with cranes and/or how they are deterred by implementing management aspects and best practices to protect workers.
  • Recognize common workplace hazards that may be present in worksites that incorporate aspects of a safe working operation around cranes.
