Topic Opioids in the Workplace and Community

Drug use and substance use disorders impact workplaces and communities across the United States.  With a particular emphasis on opioids, this presentation provides background on the effects of drug use, the impacts on workplace safety, strategies for addressing drug use, and resources to support those in need of assistance.

Speaker Robert Kirkby, CIH

Mr. Robert Kirkby, CIH has over 25 years of experience in hazardous materials and occupational health management.  Through his work for the Michigan State Police, Mr. Kirkby has worked extensively with other state and federal agencies to prevent hazardous drug exposures in forensics labs. This includes work with the State of Michigan’s learning lab on strategies for addressing infectious diseases related to substance use.        Mr. Kirkby is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Opioids Working Group and an active member of the Mid-Michigan Chapter of ASSP.
