Topic Multi-Employer Worksite Safety: Balancing Compliance and Culture

Modern construction practices have muddied the waters for safety management. Questions about who is responsible for what employees at a project site are at the crux of many regulatory and legal inquiries and outcomes today. This session will discuss roles, responsibilities, and actions in these scenarios, the OSHA and MIOSHA process for sorting through ownership of safety on multi-employer work sites, and best practices from industry, academic research, and established case law.

Speaker Dr. Zach Hansmann, Ph.D., CSP, CHMM, ARM

Zach Hansmann is the Contractor Safety Manager at Michigan State University and the Principal of the Hansmann Group.  Zach also teaches Construction Management courses for the School of Planning, Design, and Construction at MSU. Zach maintains the Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) professional designations. He is the Administrative Vice President of the Michigan Safety Conference and a member of its Construction Safety Division, a member of the Mid-Michigan Chapter of ASSP, and an authorized OSHA outreach instructor. He holds degrees from Michigan State University in Human Biology (B.S.), Construction Management (M.S.), and Planning, Design, and Construction (Ph.D.) with a research focus on the owner’s involvement in construction safety.
